Take the Earth Day 50 Challenge!

To be delivered to CEOs of the largest 50 companies on earth

Petition Statement

We’re destroying our oceans, forests and climate -- but we can’t afford to. In order to save life on earth, we’re calling on you to meet us at Earth Day Texas and develop a plan to:
~ Stop pollution, and protect critical fisheries.
~ Stop deforestation, start systemic reforestation, and shift to climate-positive agriculture.
~ Support/implement a price on carbon and build market demand for renewables and efficiency.

Petition Background

We’re destroying our oceans, forests and climate - but we can’t afford to.

We dump 8 Million metric tons of plastic into our oceans each year, at a cost of about $13 billion in damages to marine ecosystems each year. Overfishing and pollution are pushing endangered whales, dolphins and other species to the brink, and costing over 1 billion people the food they need to survive.

Slashing and burning the world’s forests sends more climate pollution into the atmosphere every year than all the world’s cars, trucks, ships and planes combined, and has driven dozens of species - including tigers, elephants, orangutans and jaguars - to the brink of extinction.

And underlying all of it is the damage we’re doing to our climate: 2015 was the hottest year on record, and during that one year there were 10 extreme weather and climate events in the US that resulted in more than $10 billion in damages and killed 155 people.

195 world governments have pledged to take action and protect our fragile planet - but they don’t yet have the plans, tools and technology to keep their promise.

That’s why we’re calling on the 50 biggest companies on earth to make specific, systemic commitments to:

OCEANS: Stop pollution, and protect critical fisheries.
FORESTS: Stop deforestation, start systemic reforestation, and shift to climate-positive agriculture.
CLIMATE: Support/implement a price on carbon and build market demand for renewables and efficiency.

We’re starting this year (April 2016) and calling on all 50 companies to take the Earth Day 50 Challenge, by Earth Day’s 50th Birthday - April 2020.

You can help by calling on all 50 corporations to that Earth Day 50 Challenge, and we’ll fax your message right to their corporate offices. You can also turn out to Earth Day Texas in person in Dallas, or via our live, online feed, to see the official kick off of the challenge and see which corporations commit to act first!
