To: NC Gov. Pat McCrory

Aim Higher NC!

To improve our public schools and provide the best education for our children, we need a good teacher in every classroom. But North Carolina is in serious danger of losing our best teachers to other states or even other professions because of low salaries. North Carolina ranks 46th in the nation in teacher pay, with an average salary nearly $10,000 lower than the national average. That's unacceptable.

As former Gov. Jim Hunt said in a recent News & Observer opinion article: "In the next four years, let's raise the pay of our public school teachers to the national average. Not talk about it, or vaguely promise it, but do it."

Why is this important?

We must raise teacher salaries to be competitive with other states and stop the loss of teachers in our public schools.
