America Needs More Water

We need more water. Though conservation should be our top priority, we still need to get more fresh water for long-term needs. America is in a drought. Municipalities and companies are scrambling for water "rights". But our water policies are like a Ponzi scheme. Our economy will only grow until we run out of groundwater... and then we'll panic - unless we're prepared.

We have the technology to create water abundance. We need the will to do it. No private company can build for more than our immediate needs. No private company can rearrange water use agreements between States to allot more water upstream (when more water is available at the coasts). No private company can organize a massive project like the U.S. interstate highway project.

We need a Federal project to develop pilot offshore desalination plants powered by renewable energy.

Why is this important?

The only sustainable way for us to get more fresh water is to desalinate it.
The only practical way to desalinate water is to do it offshore.
And the only way this will effect more than coastal communities is for the Federal Government to oversee it.

Desalination is inevitable. The only question is will we drain all of our groundwater first.

Done right, pilot offshore renewable powered desalination plants will lead us to water - more water for everyone.

Offshore desalination plants are resistant to tsunamis, earthquakes, rising sea levels, terrorism, and individual plant breakdowns. Moreover, offshore desalination plant salt emmissions will negligibly effect deep ocean salinity levels.

Also, an important spinoff of developing renewable energy off the coast for desalination plants is that the technology and infrastructure will greatly help us in overall development of wave, solar, and wind energy.
