Birmingham City Schools- Save After School Care!

We acknowledge the discussion on July 18th with the Board of Education, AG Gaston and YMCA where closing after school care for Tuggle, Hemphill, South Hampton, W.J. Christian, Oliver, Martha Gaskins, Sun Valley, Brown and Minor was presented. We advocate for retaining after school care at all 16 sites (the above mentioned as well as Princeton, Oxmoor, Avondale, Central Park, Huffman Academy and Phillips Academy) for the 2016- 2017 school year. Even considering low enrollment and costs associated with running a program, we feel that costs are potentially sustainable at all 16 sites. With these changes, about 25% of families are losing their after school care option from last year - and it is less than 3 weeks until school starts.

Why is this important?

I am a parent of a child in after school care. I believe all children at all schools should have convenient, affordable and high quality after school care at the school. #BCSAdvocacy
