Bring Peace to Milwaukee-National Guard and a Curfew
The City and County of Milwaukee has become a war zone in regards to violence. Our City and County government is not effectively doing the job. I'm proposing we enact and enforce a curfew at 21:00 for those at or under the age of 18, and bring in the National Guard to keep peace on our streets, starting July 8 through August 31, 2014.
Why is this important?
I was born and raised in Milwaukee's Sherman Park neighborhood. I've seen our neighborhoods ebb and flow, but we are definitely "ebbing" in the wrong direction. We've seen 30+ children take a bullet thus far in 2014...that's children, not adults. Some have survived, some, unfortunately, have not.
I grew up watching people fall victim to drugs and violence with the insurgence of the crack epidemic in the 80's, and I made a CHOICE to not be a part of that life. I also made a choice to make Milwaukee my home. There are good, solid people here, trying to raise their families and make a positive impact on Milwaukee, but when things get tough, it's hard to do it alone. I'm not alone in my reasoning for staying in Milwaukee....but there are a lot of people that have left here due to a lack of leadership and vision when it comes to ending the senseless violence that continue to plague our community.
This is NOT time to place blame or play politics. Unless our City, County and State leadership can put their personal issues aside and WORK TOGETHER to make our communities safe, the violence will continue. If they can campaign for our votes during election time, they can listen to and act on our concerns when they are called on by their constituents to do so. What we are doing? Is NOT working!!! If our city needs help in resources from the outside, ASK for it....bring them in....we need a change, and we need it now.
