Bring Peace to Palestine and Israel - UN Peacekeepers
The only way that a permanent peace will come to Palestine and Israel is for a UN Peacekeeping Force to be sent to occupy Palestine to help with building a recognized Palestinian Nation, to help rebuild from decades of devastation, to help weed out terrorists, and thus bring true protection for both the peoples of Palestine and Israel.
Why is this important?
I am deeply troubled by the deaths of so many innocent people in Palestine and Israel, particularly in Gaza.
Former Israeli mediator Dershen Baskin states : "if the only answer Israel has is militarily, it will not be a victory in the way that we need because we will just be here again in a year or two years from now. What we need to have is a political program and an economic program thats going to answer the needs of the Palestinian people and end the Israeli occupation, making peace, and an economic plan for Gaza similar to a Marshall Plan."
I am 65 and I have watched for decades the unsuccessful attempts to broker a peace settlement between Israel and Palestine. It is time for the UN as an independent arbiter to step in. There are irresolvable issues on both sides, most importantly the half century long military occupation of Palestine by Israel and the recognition of a Palestinian nation. The vast majority of nations of the world are in favor of ending the Israeli military occupation of Palestine and for recognizing Palestine as an independent Nation, both of which so far been blocked by Israel with the help of the U.S. at the UN.
I believe that recognizing Palestine as a nation and sending a UN Peacekeeping force there, including into Gaza, is the only way to a lasting peace.
