CA Assembly: End Youth Solitary. Pass SB 61

To be delivered to The California State House

Petition Statement

I call on you to pass SB 61 (Lee). Our kids deserve to be rehabilitated and cared for, not locked in a room by themselves.
There are currently 154 signatures. NEW goal - We need 200 signatures!

Petition Background

In California right now, youth can be locked in a room for 23 hours a day with little oversight or justification. Solitary confinement is a form or torture and this must end.

SB 61 prohibits the use of solitary as a punishment and allows it ONLY for safety reasons and can keep kids locked up for more than 24 hours ONLY after getting written approval by the directors.

It also requires juvenile facilities to maintain records on when and why kids are put in solitary confinement.
