RE: Petition for Commutation of Terry B. Young

Dear Mr. President
Terry B. Young, a 3 time honorably discharged veteran, College graduate, Community activist, former Republican Committeeman for the 2nd ward in Chicago, and 1st time offender and was convicted of a drug conspiracy with no drug amounts in 1999. The Judge in his case decided to assume that Mr. Young’s offense carried 2 Life sentences of imprisonment when in fact Mr. Young should have only served 54 months according to his lawyers. This is a travesty of justice and the people of the U.S. need to be made aware of the discriminatory practices that were conducted. We are hereby petitioning the President of the United States to take a look at Mr. Young's case as well as many other countless cases in which inmates have unjustly been given extraordinary amounts of time in prison in contrast to what the crime actually was. Upon resentencing, Mr. Young was given a reduction of one of his life sentences to 20 yrs to which his judge decided that he would not rule on his other life sentence in defiance to what the appellate court had actually instructed. Mr. President, you and only you have the power to remedy Mr. Young's situation as he has spent over 16 years in prison, became a model prisoner, is 3 credit hours from receiving his bachelor’s degree with a 4.0 G.P.A, and continues to fight for his freedom. We ask that you immediately grant Mr. Young a commutation of his sentence so that he continues to walk a straight path and help his community.

Why is this important?
