Cruse/Club Corridor Neighborhoods in Peril

Whereas the Recreation Planning Area "C" in Gwinnett County, Georgia is the most underserved of all the recreation planning districts in terms of green space (according to the 2007 Update to the Master Plan, the official guide document for our county's Department of Parks & Recreation), we, the undersigned, petition our board of commissioners to oppose any rezoning application by any developer wishing to complete a sales transaction for "the range."

Moreover, we immediately ask that there be a second tabling of the application for rezoning (RZR2013-00003) with the planning commission to allow the participation of across-the-street Sweetwater Middle School students and their parents in this process (upon the start of the school year in late August, 2013) to determine the quality of life impact for all surrounding residential and business entities.

Why is this important?

A controversial rezoning issue threatens to deprive our neighborhoods of a sorely needed open space park in the most recreationally under-served region of Gwinnett County, Georgia.
The 130 acres of undeveloped land, locally known as "The Range", is owned by Cisco Systems and is currently under a sales contract between Cisco and a developer. Making use of a contingency clause in the contract, Rocklyn Homes is trying to rezone The Range to permit construction of 399 homes, which promises to adversely impact the quality of life for all neighbors.
If they succeed in rezoning, we can forget any and all chances of preserving the land for an open space park in one of Gwinnett's most populous census tracts. Please help us persuade our county commissioners to flat out deny Rocklyn Homes' application for rezoning. Not "approve"...and not "approve with conditions"...but to flat out "DENY"!
