Eliminate wv motor vehicle inspection
Let's eliminate the WV motor vehicle inspection! As we drive everyday we see just as many Ohio license plates as we do WV and Ohio does not require vehicle inspections. So why should we be require to have them when driving on the same roads? According to national statistics, only 12-13% percent of vehicle accidents nationally are related to mechanical vehicle failure. We are all aware when something is not right with our vehicle, and if you just want to be safe and have it checked you should have the option of taking to it to a shop for them to inspect. Too many licensed shops are too busy with other work to do inspections they make no money on, which leads to them not wanting to do vehicle inspections. In a situation like mine and many other West Virginians who have a full time job, it is hard to make it to an inspection station when they operate under the same hours as a lot of our work schedules and are closed on Sundays. When I do get the time off to attempt to get a vehicle inspection, I am told by the shops that they do not have time or they are out of stickers. Have you heard this before? If you are a West Virginian that's tired of battling the trouble of getting a WV motor vehicle inspection lets put an end to it!
This may also let our state and local law enforcement focus on the real problems causing accidents such as drugs, alcohol, and distracted driving, rather than a sticker on a windshield or some window tint that's hurting nobody.
Why is this important?
This petition is to eliminate WV motor vehicle inspection. Every year I personally, and many other West Virginians, struggle to get a WV motor vehicle inspection to make our vehicle legal. It's not because our cars are junk or a major hazard to be on the road, it's over petty things such as window tint or because the inspection stations do not want to take time out of their busy day to do a vehicle inspection in which they make no money. This leads to the shops charging us for unnecessary repairs so that they can make some money. Too many West Virginians cannot afford to keep their older vehicles on the road when new car standards are required by inspections or inspection stations are just trying to make a little money.
