Full Transparency in Government
Whereas vast corruption and warmongering by Federal officials has been hidden by secrecy rules intended to protect the public;
Whereas these rules purport to serve a "war on terrorism", but they have been ineffective in that purpose;
Whereas transparency is a hallmark of democracy, and is of fundamental importance for an informed electorate
Therefore, we demand that all Federal messages, memos, emails and documents be subject to discovery under the Freedom of Information Act; that the legislative process be fully open to the public, including all committee meetings and meetings with lobbyists; and that all secrecy in the official conduct of government should come to an end.
Why is this important?
Secrecy in government grew to an unprecedented level under both Bush presidencies, and has only increased in the Obama White House. We, the American People, no longer have any idea what our elected officials are doing, or whom they are serving
