Gerrymandering in Ohio Must Be Eliminated
In 2012, the elimination of competition in elections in gerrymandered districts determined 106 of 109 Ohio elected offices, and despite equal numbers of votes cast for Democrats and Republicans, we sent three times as many Republicans to the U.S. House of Representatives. House members who were freed from concerns about competition due to gerrymandering ignored our right to representation, shut down the government, and provoked a debt crisis in 2013. We petition our fellow citizens to secure their right to just representation by instituting a fair redistricting board with competition as its objective, and pledging to work to make it happen.
Why is this important?
Only through identifying committed supporters of Gerrymandering elimination and channeling our joint efforts, can we win this battle for voter rights and democracy as it will be fought in Ohio and eventually the rest of our Nation. With this petition, we can start to band together for this upcoming battle.
