Halt MN Frack Sand Mining and Silica Dust
Frack sand mining is devastating Wisconsin. Prevent it from happening in Minnesota. If unimpeded, it will destroy fertile farmland, scenic river ways, remove the filtering of aquifers and consume large amounts of potable water.
Transfer of silica sand is another less obvious risk. In twin city neighborhoods including the U of M, trucks are dumping sand into open railroad cars. Then the sand is moved through out Minnesota. This produces dust that carries very small silica particles that can cause serious respiratory damage. The question is:
What is the difference between asbestosis and silicosis?
Demand a moratorium. Stop the frack sand mining industry until an independent assessment proves that it is safe.
Why is this important?
Living with asthma and concerned about respiratory health issues, we can not allow frack sand mining and transfer until it is proven to be safe for the health of our citizens and the environment. We also feel that it is critical that it does not negatively impact the farming and tourism industries in Minnesota. A balanced business environment is important to all Minnesotans.
