Hello, Everyone.
Criminal negligence by St. Vincent's Hospital staff ran the 168-year-old hospital and medical center into bankruptcy. The federal bankruptcy judge sold the St. Vincent’s buildings to William Rudin and family for $260 million. That amounts to pennies on the dollar. So far, plans are for 450 luxury apartments and a 150-car parking garage, but no plans for a hospital for 1.5 million Manhattan residents and visitors on the west side, or residents in all 5 boroughs who used St. Vincent's.
That's why I created a petition to: Christine Quinn, NYC Council Speaker and Greenwich Village Council representative; William Rudin, Owner of the $1 billion SVH buildings to be converted into luxury apartments; The New York State House; The New York State Senate; Governor Andrew Cuomo; The United States House of Representatives; The United States Senate; and President Barack Obama. The petition says:
We demand a new hospital, not an Urgent Care Center on steroids as planned by North Shore Long Island Jewish Hospital, with Lenox Hill (65 blocks uptown and across Central Park) as the feeder hospital. We are tired of elected politicians telling the community they want a hospital, and then turning around and telling the NYS Dept of Health, and NYC agencies who give out permits, that they are okay with an urgent care center. These are sellouts from the Mayor of New York to the NYC Council Speaker, to the Community Board appointed by the NYC Borough President, who himself said one thing to the community and in action did the opposite. The community needs and demands a new hospital. Please sign this petition to tell all from William Rudin to the elected officials that the community unconditionally will not accept luxury apartments without a new hospital.
