To: Sam Olens, Attorney General, The Georgia State House, and The Georgia State Senate

It’s past time for an independent investigation of Gov. Nathan Deal.

Recent accusations from the ethics commission staff that the governor influenced the cover-up and destruction of records during an open investigation of his campaign activities deserve a swift and thorough response. It’s time to end the cover-up. Please use your power to call for an independent investigation into the governor’s activities. It’s time to restore the public trust.

Why is this important?

The public has lost faith in Gov. Nathan Deal. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the governor’s appointee to the state ethics commission actively covered up, removed and destroyed evidence in an open investigation into Gov. Deal’s campaign activities. Gov. Deal’s office failed to disclose $1 million in contributions to a PAC for nearly two years. And Gov. Deal is leasing land to a company that owes the state $74 million in back taxes. It’s time to appoint an independent investigator to restore the public trust.
