Mayor Rawlings and Dallas City Council: Stop Plastic Pollution and Ban the Bag

Victory! The creator of this petition declared the campaign a success. You can still sign the petition to show support.

Plastic bags are littering the Trinity River, White Rock Lake, our parks, and neighborhoods and clogging our sewage and wastewater systems -- and they're never going to biodegrade. Please make Dallas an environmental leader by banning single-use plastic bags in Dallas.

Why is this important?

Plastic bags litter the Trinity River, White Rock Lake and the city’s streets; they're blowing around Dallas' parks and neighborhoods; they're clogging our sewage and wastewater systems — and they're never going to biodegrade.

Dallas uses millions of plastic grocery bags every year. They trash our parks, waters and city streets. And once they get into the city’s environment, plastic bags kill animals like birds, discourage potential investment, and cost the city hundreds of thousands of dollars to clean up. We can't let something as unnecessary and wasteful as disposable grocery bags plague Dallas' cityscape and waste our natural resources.

Luckily, the solution is simple: Dallas can be an environmental leader by banning disposable plastic checkout bags so people can use reusable ones instead. Dallas Council Member Dwaine Caraway has proposed a ban on plastic bags and we need to show the Mayor and council that the public supports this!
