Michigan: Pass ASL Interpreter Rules to Raise Standards

Victory! The creator of this petition declared the campaign a success. You can still sign the petition to show support.

The Michigan legislature, in 2007, passed a new law raising the
standards for ASL interpreters in Michigan. Now, the Joint Committee
on Administrative Rules (JCAR) needs to review and approve them before the end of the legislative session, which is June 13th, the last day that both the Michigan Senate and House of Representatives are in session, for sure.

If the Rules are not passed by June 13, 2013, the DODHH will have to start all over again come fall. Tell JCAR members to do their jobs and review the Rules appropriately before the end of this year's legislative session! Support the Deaf Community in Michigan!!

Why is this important?

The Michigan legislature, in 2007, passed a new law raising the standards for ASL interpreters in Michigan.

Now, the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules (JCAR) must review and approve the rules before the end of the legislative session, or the DODHH will have to start all over again to get standards raised in the state for Deaf citizens.
