MoCo, Take Down the Confederate Statue

We call on the Montgomery County Council to recognize the damage that Confederate symbols cause within our community. Please act to remove the Confederate statue on the grounds of the Rockville, MD courthouse and send a message that our society does not honor traitors who fought for slavery. We do not "...Love the Thin Gray Line".

Why is this important?

In the early 1900s, white Montgomery County politicians wanted to appeal to Confederate veterans to help diminish the potential influence of former black slaves. Thus, the Confederate statue was erected on the grounds of the Rockville courthouse and Confederate military service was honored.

The Rockville statue should never have been placed on public property and it is long past time for it to be removed. Confederate soldiers should not be honored as "heroes" as the Rockville statue does. Those who chose to fight for the Confederacy were fighting for slavery and white supremacy; a cause admired by the South Carolina murderer and racist groups across the country.

We call on the Montgomery County, MD Council to recognize the damage that Confederate symbols cause within our community. Please act to remove the Rockville statue and send a message that our society does not honor traitors who fought for slavery. We do not "...Love the Thin Gray Line".
