As a North Carolinian, I have the right to know what I'm eating. I urge you to support legislation that would require the labeling of genetically engineered (GE) foods in North Carolina and across the country.
GE foods are unlabeled, untested and potentially unsafe. I deserve the right to know whether the food I buy is genetically engineered. Most non-organic processed foods contain sweeteners, oils and preservatives made from GE crops. These ingredients have not been tested for long-term impacts on human health, they increase costs for family farmers, and growing them encourages the use of toxic pesticides that can get into our water and air.
Just as food products require fat, sodium and sugar content labels, they should also disclose genetically engineered content. Please support the right to know so that I am informed about the food I am feeding my family.
