Petition Statement
Term limits is as old as history itself whereby it was assumed that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Our wise fore-fathers (Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson et al) recognized this human frailty by including term limits in the Constitution of the Continental Congress (1781-1789). Sadly, it was not carried over to our current constitution and as a result we are closer to an oligarchy than a democracy. If we are to fulfill our destiny as the world's greatest democracy we must implement term limits in the US Congress as soon as possible.
Petition Background
The US Congress, as it consists today is beholden to special interests. If members of Congress are restricted to one six year term in office they would weigh more carefully how they vote on bills and laws since they would be affecting their own lives directly when they return to the electorate.
