Please Lift the Schedule I Restrictions on Medical Marijuana by Passing the CARERS Act

Please pass the CARERS Act to make medical marijuana accessible to those who need it for their treatments.

Why is this important?

I, the undersigned, am petitioning the US Congress to please pass the Compassionate Access, Research, Expansion and Respect States (CARERS) Act. Under this Act, medical marijuana will be reclassified as a Schedule II drug, which will allow patients undergoing cannabis-based treatments for their condition to have more access to the drug.

Medical marijuana is currently classified as a Schedule I drug, identifying it as an illegal substance inherently dangerous and without any medical value. As recent developments have shown, medical marijuana is safe and is proven to have tremendous benefits to patients who suffer from severe epilepsy, among other illnesses. Because of the drug's current Schedule I classification, it is extremely difficult for these patients to obtain the drug legally and without risk of arrest if they live in a state where marijuana is still considered illegal.

Passing the CARERS Act will truly help patients requiring medical marijuana in treating their illnesses and living better lives. It will also allow more extensive research on the drug's medical benefits. So, I am appealing to the Congress to please make the CARERS Act a law of the land as soon as possible.

Respectfully,
Stella Andrews
