Protect Burrowing Owls From Eviction!

As California citizens, we urge the California Assembly's Water, Parks, and Wildlife Committee to look into the process of burrowing owl den evictions as the practice has not been thoroughly looked into and is harmful to the owls.

Why is this important?

Burrowing owls in California are in grave danger of eviction. Eviction is when a one-way door is placed in the owl's burrow entrance in order to get them to leave property slated for development. Once the owl leaves the burrow, it is unable to get back into its shelter. This process disorients the owls and makes them an easy target for predators and motor vehicle accidents. The California Fish and Wildlife Department admits they do not know the fate of evicted owls and also admits the owls suffer when evicted. In order to stop this process, we want to urge the Assembly Water, Parks, and Wildlife committee to hold an oversight hearing to fully examine burrowing owl evictions.
