SanGolden Gilbert Deserves a Second Chance

SanGolden Gilbert was convicted when he was 21 years old of robbery/Burglary in1999. He was given a sentence of 40 years. He has been eligible for parole starting in 2009 and the reason for denial at each parole hearing has been a variation of the same: “has not served sufficient time for punishment.” He completed the one program(GCIP) assigned by the courts in 2006. Some of the other programs completed which will help him in employment are: Trades: Building Services(2006),Cabinet Making & Mill Working(2009) Apprenticeships: Carpentry(5519 hours credit).
Here is Sangolden’s Statement:
“My name is SanGolden Gilbert, I'm incarcerated and serving a 40 year prison term for an armed robbery/burglary I committed as party to a crime, when I was 21 years old in 1999. Although no one was physically hurt, I know I cause much trauma and pain and am truly sorry. At all of my parole hearings in some shape form or fashion I've been told that I haven't served a sufficient amount of time. This reason has been the only reason that’s been used for denying my parole release.
I am fully rehabilitated and ready to return to my community, where I'm wanted, where I can make a difference, and where I earned the right to be. I upheld my end of my punishment based on my time served, completion of all program needs, arid good institution adjustment. Since 2006 I've held some kind of employment and I'm currently working at Badger State Industries now.
For each and everyone who reads this, the community efforts that’s pushing and showing support for all parole eligible inmates... I want all of you to know that I truly understand that what I did was wrong and that I take total responsibility for the crime I committed. I'm deeply sorry and remorseful to the victims of my crime and their families. A second chance to live my life right is the only thing that I'm seeking. "

Hi this Pamela Gilbert I'm writing for my brother Sangolden Gilbert to tell you a little about him.Sangolden has always been a kind living person going out his way to help any and everyone in his family and community but one day he made a bad choice and for that he was sent to prison not only was he in prison but he was separated from his family , friend and community. So I'm asking for you to give him a second chance so he can have a chance to give back to the people that love him and are here to help him to show that he can be a great help to his family, friend and most of all the community

Why is this important?

SanGolden has served his time for the robbery he committed 16 years ago. No one was hurt - he has learned the gravity of his act and has been a model prisoner. It seems he is only kept in for revenge purposes. But we are a changing society and know that revenge only does not work. His family is suffering greatly with his absence, as is our whole society because overcrowding in our prisons and no resources for training and treatment for prisoners now coming in makes everything less safe. The DOC has left its rehabilitative mission and we want that to change. Start the process toward sanity by releasing SanGolden Gilbert. .
