Stop election chaos in North Carolina

By Bob Hall (Contact)

To be delivered to: The North Carolina State House, The North Carolina State Senate, and Governor Pat McCrory

Petition Statement
Protect our right to vote and stop blocking federal funds for voting machine maintenance and early voting sites in North Carolina. Don't let NC become the Florida Fiasco of 2012!

Petition Background

The North Carolina primary is May 8, and already voters are facing major confusion at the polls.

Because of an incredibly confusing new redistricting map, many districts zigzag through precincts so that neighbors will literally receive different ballots with different sets of candidates.

Worse yet, rather than help ensure that we have a smooth election this year, conservative leaders in the North Carolina General Assembly are blocking federal funds that would pay for voting machine maintenance and more Early Voting sites in the fall.

More than $4 million from the federal Help America Vote Act (HAVA) is already here, in a NC bank account. But the Republicans have frozen the money because they think opening more Early Voting sites in the fall will mostly help voters they don’t like!

Thankfully, a bipartisan group of election officials from all 100 counties is speaking out, calling for the release of the HAVA funds to relieve long lines on Election Day and avoid machine breakdowns. We need to speak up, too, and make sure NC doesn’t wind up as the Florida Fiasco of 2012.
