Stop Monsanto in Oregon

The Oregon State House of Representatives has recently decided to pass HB 3212, which undermines Jackson County's bans on GMOs. This bill is an example of the state legislature kowtowing to corporations like Monsanto and Syngenta who don't like it when municipalities vote to restrict the use of their seeds.

But this bill doesn't just impact Jackson County -- it can have ramifications all across the state. It's going to take all of us, speaking out together, to reverse this ban on local communities making decisions about what's best for them.

Why is this important?

Last year, Jackson County passed a ballot measure banning farmers in the county from growing genetically engineered crops (GMOs). Local farmer Elisa Applegate writes that the purpose of the ban was to "protect our traditional and organically grown crops from contamination by the GMO crops legally patented by Monsanto, Syngenta and the other chemical giants."
