Stop Subsidizing Fossil Fuels & Climate Change
Fossil fuels receive nearly 6-times more subsidies than clean energy ($72 billion versus $12 billion each year)--and that doesn't factor the annual $500 billion in the environmental and public health damages.
We have the technology to wean ourselves from fossil fuels.
Stop using tax payer money to subsidize the most profitable industry in history, level the playing field--and allow the free market to reward the innovators and industries that will lead us to a sustainable national economy, a stable climate, and energy security.
Why is this important?
Subsidizing fossil fuels only maintains the illusion that fossil fuels are "cheap". Fossil fuels are cheap at the pump and when we open our energy bills, but we make up the remainder of their true costs thru our tax and healthcare payments. What's worse, when you factor in the long-term ecological and health costs, we're deferring large payments to future generations.
By keeping fossil fuels "cheap":
1. we decrease awareness of our consumption--and the desire for change;
2. we increase global warming, climate instability--and the recovery costs of more frequent and more sever climatic events;
3. we're decreasing the economic viability and the adoption rate of renewable alternative
4. we're missing a tremendous opportunity to revitalize our national economy
