To: News media executives
Stop the news media from facilitating and profiting from mass shootings in our country.
The news media has a financial incentive to ensure these mass shootings continue. Each time this happens, the news media rake in profits in the form of increased revenue from TV ads and internet clicks during the coverage of tragedy. Would someone do this if they knew they didn't have the power to captivate the entire country and world with their actions? The answer is simple. No.
This petition doesn't ask for legislation. It asks for self-imposed decency. It asks news media executives to do one of two things:
1. At the minimum, establish a policy to eliminate the possibility that the killer will be glorified (No repeating, or possibly mentioning, of the murderer's name. Never, even once, post the murderer's picture.)
Or
2. Establish your own blackout of coverage of these events.
Our children are waiting on you to act. There is no time for delay. NEWS MEDIA EXECUTIVES, ACT NOW.
Why is this important?
We need solutions to stop these ever-increasing mass shootings. The news media provides glorification to these cowardly murderers, and it profits on the death of our fellow citizens and children. It must stop, NOW!
