Petition Statement
Come to consensus on a single constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United by July 4th so Congressional approval and ratification efforts can begin.
Petition Background
Each member of Congress named on this petition has supported one of the twelve constitutional amendments that have been proposed in Congress to reverse the Supreme Court's Citizens United decision.
These proposals are similar, and they all include variations on one or more of the following principles.
1. Money is not speech, and Congress has the authority to regulate the use of money to influence elections
2. Corporations are not people, and Congress has the authority to regulate corporate engagement in the political process
3. Federal campaigns should be publicly financed
We now challenge the leaders who stand behind these proposals to take the next step. We call on them to merge their many proposals into one, to unite behind it, and then to present that proposal to the American people by July 4th of this year.
