Tell Costco: Say NO to GMO salmon

Dear Mr. Jelinek:

Costco is known for its quality salmon and prides itself on its sustainable seafood policy. However, Costco is at risk of losing its credibility, and my business, if it does not commit to only carrying non-GMO salmon and seafood.

A growing number of major grocery store chains, including Kroger and Safeway, have committed to not sell GMO salmon. More than 35,000 people have petitioned Costco asking it to keep GMO fish off its shelves, but it is still lagging behind its competition.

Costco is one of the largest retailers of salmon and seafood in the US, and is one of the last large retailers that has yet to commit to not sell GMO salmon.

Genetically engineered salmon poses risks to our health, environment and endangered wild salmon.

I would like Costco to be a true leader in sustainable seafood and commit to not sell GMO salmon and other GMO seafood.

Why is this important?

A growing number of major grocery store chains have made commitments to not sell GMO salmon. Even if the FDA approves this risky fish, by ensuring that the world's largest retailers refuse to sell it, we can send a strong message that there is no market for it.

Unfortunately, despite the fact that more than 35,000 people have written to Costco's CEO asking him to commit to keep GMO fish off store shelves, this retail giant is still lagging behind its competition.

So now we need to turn up the heat and flood Costco's customer service inbox.

Tell Costco to join its competitors and just say no to GMO salmon!
