Tell Marquette University: Give money from Paul Ryan fundraiser to the poor

Paul Ryan's unchristian budgets favor the wealthy at the expense of those who are struggling. Marquette University should donate the money raised in his honor to a charity that serves the poor.

Why is this important?

Representative Paul Ryan just released the latest version of his budget, once again proposing to slash lifelines for the poor and middle class.

Worse yet, Marquette University, a Catholic institution, gave him an award for public service -- selling tickets and sponsorships to the swanky luncheon for up to $25,000.

It's one thing to recognize an elected official's public service and invite him to speak. But it's quite another for a Catholic university to trade on Paul Ryan's popularity with the super-wealthy to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars, flouting Pope Francis' words about trickle-down economics and service to the poor.

Instead of accepting this money and effectively endorsing Ryan's worldview, Marquette should donate the money raised at this luncheon to the poor.
