As potential Illinois Democratic primary voters, we urge Senate candidate Rep. Tammy Duckworth to publicly pledge to support and vote for the Iran nuclear agreement on the floor of the U.S. House.
Why is this important?
The anticipated Congressional votes on the Iran nuclear agreement are all about Democrats. If Democrats stick together in support of diplomacy, there’s no way Republicans can derail the agreement.
Illinois Rep. Tammy Duckworth has not yet taken a clear stand. This concerns all Illinois Democrats, because Duckworth is running for the Senate seat currently held by Mark Kirk, and there is a contested Democratic primary. Democratic primary voters across Illinois will have a say in whether Duckworth is the Democratic nominee. It also concerns Illinois Senator Dick Durbin, because he is Rep. Duckworth's chief political patron. He could use his influence to help get Duckworth off the dime.
