Uproot the White House Gardens, Donate That Produce, And Regrow With Genetically Modified And Con...

Our government has been incredibly instrumental in allowing the criminally responsible group Monsanto to have a mass amount of control over our food supply. When President Obama was addressing the concerns of food safety on the hope and change campaign trail, the then United States Senator from Illinois assured those concerned that he would put their interests in front of the very people that we were concerned about.

Well it turns out that not only has our president not made good on that promise but once elected he then turned around and appointed Monsanto employees to key positions within our government, positions within our government that oversee the very branches that regulate the food.

Let's put aside just how politically colluded that would appear, I think that we would all agree that we the people should be afforded the very basic right of knowing and having control of what is in the mass produced foods that we eat, and rightfully so, it's our consumer dollars that drive these profits and this industry is paid very well. To date, we have only been asking that at a minimum these foods be labeled. It is entirely unfair to be asked to fully trust that the people now in charge of our food that brought us Agent Orange, PCB's and DDT (and the horrors associated) are respectively regarding the health and well being of the citizens of this country, the very same citizens that they have proven time and time again to cause harm to with their lengthy list of unethical and criminal business practices to include horrible crimes committed, knowingly, against nature and humanity.

Initially (and primarily just out of a poor taste point of view), I was shocked to learn that the president and the first lady made the decision to go 100% organically grown in the White House gardens, gardens that we pay for, when 75% of our own food is genetically modified with absolutely no say so whatsoever from the people, it was just put on our plates. How can we trust that these foods are entirely safe for our own families when they refuse to grow and consume these foods themselves? Additionally, if they feel that organic is a better choice for their own family, and clearly they do, why does our government not support our organic farmers within our communities the same way that they support the big agribusiness corporations, that in turn would make it easier for all of us to have these same choices. I think that many know the answer to that.

There is no doubt that more and more people every day want these same healthier options for our own families yet our government gives very little support for us to have such. We should not be okay with this.

They clearly have the luxury of being able to afford these healthier options for their own family whereas many of us do not and that is a direct result of the incredibly generous amount$ of government support given to the corporations providing genetically modified and/or conventionally grown in comparison to the very little support given to those that are providing these healthier options, these same organic options that they themselves feel are better choices for their own family. But even if we can't afford these healthier options, why are we encountering such a massive struggle to just simply get these foods labelled? This hardly seems fair when it is in fact our money that pays for their healthier and organic choices that they thought better for their own family when many of us just don't have that choice.

If my tax dollars pay for these gardens at the White House why can't I insist that the gardens contain fruits and vegetables that are genetically modified and grown with the same chemicals and in the same manner in which 75% of our own food is? I would like to see that until we have these most basic human rights respected, the right to know what is in our food and the right to be involved in the control of that food, that the White House be no different, why should it be?

I would like to see that the gardens located on this property, our gardens, (the gardens that we the people paid for), be uprooted and donated to families that can't afford organic, and when grown again, grown with the same chemicals and seeds that Monsanto produces, the same type of food that now makes up 75% of our own food supply. Honestly If it's good enough for my guests and my family, it should be good enough for theirs. Additionally, and at a minimum, I would also like to see that these same options are made more easily obtainable for our own families by demanding that our leaders share the support given to these industries equally. Why should we pay for them to have these options when they are out of reach for so many of us? We shouldn't.

Why is this important?

If genetically modified foods are good enough for me and my family then they should be good enough for whomever resides in The White House. Many people, due to grossly disproportionate government funding, do not have the luxury of being able to simply choose these healthier options for their own family, it should be insulting that their tax dollars should pay for 100% organic gardens at the White House. Their tax dollars should be going towards making these same options easily obtainable for their own family. These are our gardens, we own them, and yet many of us are forced to eat genetically modified foods while we pay for others to have healthier options. This is hardly in the interest of the people.
