To: DC Public Service Commmission and Muriel Bowser, Mayor, Washington DC

Don't let Exelon-Pepco kill clean energy in D.C.! Stop the merger

The D.C. Public Service Commission must develop a full proceeding to review Mayor Bowser's settlement in the Exelon-Pepco merger. The proceeding should include all aspects of due process, public input, discovery, and cross examination. Anything less than a full process now would deprive D.C. residents of our due process rights. This merger would undo years of progress DC has made toward building the clean energy future we need to reduce the carbon pollution that is accelerating climate change.

Why is this important?

In August D.C. regulators unanimously rejected the Pepco-Exelon merger because the deal was an inherent conflict of interest. Thousands of D.C. residents voiced their opposition to the merger—many speaking out against Exelon's distressing history of working against clean energy solutions like solar—and more than half of D.C.'s ANCs passed resolutions opposing the merger. Clearly, D.C. does NOT want Exelon.

Unbelievably, despite this clear rejection by both regulators and the public, Mayor Bowser cut a back room deal with Exelon. Now she is pushing it through the Public Service Commission with an "expedited" process.

The Public Service Commission must open a new case to examine the proposed merger in light of this settlement. Anything less would be a failure of due process and puts our climate and energy economy at risk.
