  • Safety For The Kids
I know it’s rough to keep an eye on one kid, let alone 2 or 3. It’s also hard to keep a kid locked in a house throughout the days, which bring us to the park. The park is our safety net for keeping not only ourselves sane, but also our kids.

  • Award Civil Rights Icon Ruby Bridges the Presidential Medal of Freedom!
The story of Ruby Bridges, one of the first Black children to integrate elementary schools in the South, is a crucial part of our nation's history. But right-wing politicians banning books that cover important topics like racism and the fight for LGBTQ+ rights are trying to silence her. We need to ensure Ruby's story of bravery and triumph over racism is never forgotten. Sign the petition to award Ruby Bridges with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

  • Demand IACP denounce police officer Daniel Auderer and remove him from any upcoming conferences!
Daniel Auderer—the Seattle police officer who made disgusting and inhumane remarks about Jaahnavi Kandula after the 23-year-old Northeastern University was killed by fellow police officer Kevin Dave–had a session posted and then quietly removed from an International Association of Chiefs of Police conference in August. By selecting Auderer as a presenter, IACP implicitly condoned his abhorrent behavior to its 33,000 members and broader community. It's not enough now to quietly remove his presentation. Demand the IACP release a statement strongly denouncing Auderer's inhumane remarks and explicitly commit to not having him present at International Impaired Driving and Traffic Safety Conference or future IACP conferences!

  • Please Help Save 87 years old Rose Kynast from Eviction
Your Honor The community and neighbors of Long Island City, kindly ask for you to uphold the RENT STABILIZED Status of our beloved neighbor and friend Rose Kynast. She is a pillar of our community. She has been a friend and surrogate mother to so many neighbors in our community. Selfless, kind, and charitable, Rose is a legend among us. She has helped so many of us in our times of struggle and misfortune. Famous for being a friend to all the stray animals of Long lsland City, Rose has dedicated her life and resources to feeding the homeless and offering assistance to those in need. She has been a beacon of hope to all of us for almost 50 years. Now in the twilight of her life, when she is the one who needs assistance, we ask kindly to help repay her with the respect and dignity she has given all of us. Rose has been duped out of her rent stabilized apartment because she trusted a person who pretended to have good intentions. In her elderly years, she was moved to another unit in the adjacent building under the ruse her apartment needed repair, her home of 30 years and she was never allowed back. Now, her beloved Landlord and friend has died and new ownership is attempting to evict her. She lived at 10-41 48th avenue #5 for over 30 years. She was unscrupulously relocated to 10-43 48th ave #1 in 2006. Under the agreement ( WITNESSED BY MANY) she would return to her legal apartment when the supposed essential work was completed. THIS NEVER HAPPENED. An elderly person with no legal counsel was tricked into living in a different unit under a nefarious plan to renovate her apartment and raise the rent. Your Honor, We the People OF Long Island City ask you to uphold the rights of the elderly and to protect Rose Kynast from Eviction. She has the entire community by her side to help her in her final years. Final years that should afford her grace and dignity.

  • Ban Candy Rewards & Food Dye in Fayette County Classrooms
This petition was created because the Fayette County Wellness Committee scheduled their once yearly meeting at 2pm on a Monday, with one week’s notice. It is impossible for most parents to attend (working and/or school pick), so I created this petition to demonstrate parent support for this cause. These are our concerns regarding candy rewards and food dye: The long-term effects of candy rewards in classrooms is overwhelmingly negative - food dyes linked to cancer and DNA damage, behavioral and psychological issues, increased risk for health problems in the short term (cavities, compulsive overeating) and long term (insulin resistance, obesity, stroke, etc). The Wellness Committee as well as the members of the Fayette County Board of Education and Superintendent Patterson must take this research seriously and commit to changing policies in order to promote the welfare of our Fayette County children. I have students in Fayette County elementary, middle, and high schools. During our three Meet the Teacher events this year, almost every one of my kids’ teachers asked for candy donations. One teacher joked, “kids will do anything for a jolly rancher.” This is not a joke. Our kids’ brains are being rewired - we may see positive impact on behavior in the short term but the long-term repercussions on our kids’ psychological and physical health cannot be ignored. Candy rewards rob students of the opportunity to experience innate personal satisfaction - a much stronger and healthier motivator for students long-term and into their adult lives. It is confusing for students when they are told to eat healthy foods but are rewarded with unhealthy foods when they have positive behavior or academic success. Research indicates that children who receive candy rewards tend to overeat. As a result, their risk for unhealthy weight gain/obesity, insulin resistance/type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, cancer, respiratory problems, and even Alzheimer’s disease are increased. Studies show the effect of sugar on children is akin to the effect of nicotine, heroin, and cocaine. Sugar is addictive. “Indices of sugar intake have been associated with aggressive behavior, attention deficit, dysphoria, and suicidal thoughts” (The Case to Ban Sugar, PubMed). Students demonstrate DECREASED academic performance when they are expecting a reward. Rather than doing their best, they do just enough to get the reward. Creativity is stifled when students are trained to do the minimum. Candy rewards lead to sugar spikes, crashes, and mood swings, making it difficult for students to maintain self-control. School administrations are out of touch with the amount of candy that is distributed in the classrooms. Several parents have told me their kids come home with pockets full of candy each week. Others have shared that their student “earns” a big bag of candy each day for hanging up their backpack or returning their take-home folder. And bus drivers regularly give out candy on the buses as well. Per my request, my second grader receives stickers (that I provide) instead of candy rewards. She has earned as many as 19 stickers during one week of school. Those stickers would have been 19 pieces of candy if she was any other student in the class. There are already numerous (non-candy) reward systems in place at our elementary school. The CDC also provides resources for healthy rewards: https://www.cdc.gov/healthyschools/parentsforhealthyschools/pdf/P4HS_Rewards.pdf Please ban food rewards and food dye in Fayette County classrooms. • Let's use vacant structures to HOUSE the UNHOUSED!
Cape May County Commissioners, Too many of our fellow citizens are unhoused. While they sleep in the woods, many buildings in our county sit vacant. Instead of "criminalizing" their misfortune, we should be trying to help them. Let's have the county purchase vacant structures and turn them into affordable housing units. Together, we can help our less fortunate brothers and sisters live a more dignified life!

  • Alumni for University of Colorado Boulder Divestment
Dear President Todd Saliman and Chancellor Phillip P. DeStefano, We are writing this letter as alumni of the University of Colorado system in solidarity with the student encampment. We demand for the University of Colorado to divest from Israel. We stand in fully solidarity with the Students for Democratic Society and their demands that state: Drop all charges against student protesters and support the right to freedom of speech: This right includes not singling out particular viewpoints for censorship, protecting students from targeted discriminatory harassment and violence, leaving ample space for students to express themselves, and recognizing that armed police on campus endanger students’ safety Divestment: The University of Colorado shall fully divest from any corporations which operate in Israel. Refuse Grants: The University of Colorado shall refuse to accept grants or funding from corporations that contract with the U.S armed forces and terminate any relationships with said corporations. End Study Abroad: The University of Colorado shall terminate their study abroad programs to Israel. Statement: The University of Colorado shall release a statement that condemns Israel and the genocidal actions it has committed against Palestine. Transparency: The University of Colorado will disclose the university’s financial investments. Meeting: CU President Todd Saliman and Chancellor Phillip P. DeStefano, shall meet with alumni organizers and students to discuss a plan to implement the above demands. As former students, we have paid hundreds of thousands into the University of Colorado system that is actively supporting a genocide abroad. We believe that it is our duty as alumni to speak up against the violence that Israel and its supporters have enacted here and abroad, including the violence that students, faculty, staff and alumni have faced when police have shown up to a peaceful demonstration. Students were exercising their constitutional First Amendment right to protest and we are appalled by the actions taken by the University to silence and dismiss the student’s demands while jeopardizing their safety. We will continue to do all in our power to stand with Palestine and the students on Auraria Campus and condemn Israel’s actions and its supporters, including our own alma mater as long as it continues to stand with Israel, even in the face of genocide. Signed,

  • CTA Safety and Reliability
The city of Chicago heavily relies on public transportation, but recent incidents of destruction and disruptive behavior on trains and buses have jeopardized commuter safety and punctuality. Passengers report feeling unsafe due to frequent instances of erratic behavior, including substance use and public indecency. Despite attempts to seek refuge in the front train cars, these measures are proving ineffective. Delays caused by police interventions further exacerbate commuters' frustrations, leading to increased reliance on expensive ride-sharing services like Uber and Lyft. To address these issues, implementing a pricing cap on ride-sharing services and enhancing security measures with a focus on mental health care accessibility, including proactive screening for disruptive behavior, mental health professional training for security teams are crucial steps to ensure the safety and efficiency of Chicago's public transit system.

  • Toxic, Radioactive Drilling Waste Has No Place on PA Roads
Since the PA Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) put a moratorium on spreading toxic, radioactive drilling wastewater on PA's unpaved roads, conventional drillers have reported spreading 3.5 million gallons. "Reported" is the operative term because the DEP found that 86% of drillers in PA failed to file production and waste reports for 2023. That's up from the more than 50% who have failed to file for several years. All of this is happening against a backdrop of mounting scientific evidence of the dangers of the waste itself and of spreading it on our roads. Nobody can say where, when or how much of this toxic, radioactive waste has been spread. Stop tolerating the industry's non-compliance with even the most basic reporting requirements and its defiance of a moratorium. The DEP has demonstrated that it cannot manage dangerous waste, so it is up to you, our elected officials, to declare an outright ban on all road spreading in Pennsylvania.

  • Investigate the sudden deaths of 2 whistleblowers who flagged safety concerns on Boeing planes NOW!
Boeing’s aircraft have resulted in more than 6,000 aviation accidents and incidents worldwide. Out of those 6,000, 415 were fatal accidents, and more than 9,000 people have died as a result of Boeing’s faulty aircraft. And in just the last two months, Joshua Dean and John Barnett, two whistleblowers who flagged major safety concerns with Boeing aircraft and testified against them in a lawsuit, have suddenly died. These deaths can not go without an investigation. Will you sign the petition to demand that the Department of Justice investigate the sudden deaths of Joshua Dean and John Barnett NOW?
