Ban Fracking in Miami-Dade, Florida

The fracking industry was temporarily defeated in the Florida Senate on March 1, 2016 thanks to grassroots pressure.

Florida's citizens anticipate that the industry will return next year with more money and greater resolve to force a bill through the Florida legislature that will legalize fracking.

That's why we're asking you, our commissioners, to pass an ordinance banning fracking and disposal of fracking fluids in our county.

Why is this important?

Fracking is causing real harm in every state where it is allowed. Health problems and even death in residents and workers, contaminated well and surface water, environmental damage and earthquakes are documented in 300 scientific studies.

In Miami-Dade, fracking fluids have already been disposed of in Opa-Locka, a low-income African-American community, victimizing people with the fewest protections. Now the state wants to weaken water protection standards, making us all even more vulnerable.

Signing this petition will also send a message loud and clear to Tallahassee in support of the movement to Ban Fracking in Florida.
