Censure Pres. Trump's Racist Anti-Immigrant Remarks

On Thursday, January 11, in an Oval Office meeting with members of Congress discussing immigration from Haiti, El Salvador, and Africa, Pres. Trump asked "Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?" Congress must formally censure the President in order to decisively and publicly dissociate the Congress and the people of the United States from this noxiously racist comment, which is beneath the dignity of the office of President and not reflective of our cherished national traditions.

Why is this important?

Scarcely a day goes by that the president does not make outrageous and offensive remarks that embarrass the country before the world, undermine the serious business of governing, and exacerbate divisions among the people. Congress must step up to reprimand this latest flagrantly racist remark, made in the presence of several of its members, or risk being seen as complicit in a dangerous degradation of our national dialog.
