We the undersigned advocate for a ballot question put to the voters to give Newton City Council discretion to lower the number of licensed retail marijuana stores below 8, provided enough licenses are awarded to foster sufficient local market competition.
Why is this important?
A total ban on retail marijuana is not the only option for relief under MCL c.94G §3; another option is to lower the cap of stores. The City Council -- and Newton's voting body -- deserves alternatives to the extreme positions of 8 stores or 0 stores.
