FIRE FCC CHAIRMAN TOM WHEELER! Replace him with someone who isn't a former employee of the indust...

Net neutrality is THE free speech issue of this moment in US history. The Internet is the public forum of our times and should be treated exactly the same way the airwaves were treated when radio and TV were first invented: as a public utility. Companies wishing to do business by providing Internet services should be licensed to do so IN THE PUBLIC INTEREST. If they fail to do so, their licenses should be pulled and transferred to companies who will do so.

The companies that provide broadband connections to US consumers should NOT be able to discriminate when it comes to what services their customers have access to. Period. For example, they shouldn't be able to deliver their own streaming video services at high speed and Netflix's streaming video at low speed. But that's exactly the kind of thing they want the power to do.

And if they're able to discriminate based on one criterion, they can discriminate based on another -- like, they don't like the content provider's political, social, economic, or religious views.

FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler has proved he is running the FCC at the beck and call of big telecom. His proposal for a so-called Internet "fast-track" is the proof. He's obviously delivering what he has been paid to deliver.

What we want is REAL net neutrality, based on reclassifying the telecom companies that provide broadband connections under Title II of the Communications Act. All data packets should be treated exactly alike. Period. Full stop.

President Obama has said several times that he supports making net neutrality the law of the land. President Obama appointed Tom Wheeler and Tom Wheeler's proposal is the exact opposite of net neutrality. So, Mr. President it's time to put up or shut up: Replace Tom Wheeler with an FCC chairman who will reclassify ISP providers and enforce net neutrality.

Why is this important?

FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler has proved he is running the FCC totally at the beck and call of the big telecom industry he once worked for. The citizens of the USA need and deserve a free and unfettered Internet. Net neutrality is THE free speech issue of this moment in US history.
