1) Reduce video toll late fees - $50 per transaction is too high!
2) Stop suspending vehicle registrations for unpaid late fees. People who are unable to pay will be even less able to pay if they cannot earn a living.
3) Stop garnishing income tax refunds to collect unpaid late fees.
Why is this important?
As described in the Washington Post, thousands of Marylanders are suffering because of our state's predatory toll road policies. Maryland charges a $50 per trip late fee on a $1.50 to $6.00 video toll. These fines add up and have resulted in suspended vehicle registrations, bankruptcies and even homelessness.
We are calling on Governor Larry Hogan to take immediate action to fix this broken system:
