Governor Herbert: Clean up our dirty air!

Governor Herbert should follow the advice of the more than 60 physicans who requested that he declare a public health emergency in Salt Lake and surrounding counties due to our prolonged inversion. This includes lowering the speed limit to 50 mph, making TRAX free during winter months to promote public transport, and requiring Kennecott and other major polluters to reduce their emissions.

Why is this important?

I am a healthy, fit, 64-year-old woman. Yet I am wheezing and coughing from our filthy air, and an x-ray now shows that I have irreversible lung damage, despite the fact that I have never smoked and exercise regularly. Is this the future we want for our children and ourselves? Must we move away to protect our lungs?
