Ban Fracking in Hawaii
The following concerned citizens propose a new state law be enacted to ensure hydraulic fracturing technology (fracking) is not allowed in Hawaii or in the surrounding waters, and that any liquefied natural gas (LNG) purchased by entities operating in Hawaii for utilization in Hawaii is only purchased from companies that guarantee the LNG purchased is not obtained by fracking in the originating location.
Why is this important?
This petition has two parts. Part one is to ban geothermal hydraulic fracturng (fracking) in Hawaii. Geothermal fracking creates earthquakes and threatens to contaminate our water tables. There is a clear and direct threat that geothermal fracking will be utilized as geothermal drilling is expanded in Hawaii.
Part two of this petition is intended to restrict the purchase of Liquified Natural Gas in Hawaii to gas obtained from conventional wells vs wells that use fracking.
