Petition Background

The purpose of this petition is to communicate to the United States Congress that we, the undersigned, are American citizens who want to impeach and remove from the Congress the following Tea Party Republicans for abuse of power which is harming the American people. Abuse of power is cited in the U.S. Constitution as an impeachable offense.

These individuals conspired to force the shutdown of the Federal Government contrary to the will of the majority of the members of the House, the U.S. Senate, and the American people:
Michele Bachmann, Minnesota
Joe Barton, Texas
Gus Bilirakis, Florida
Rob Bishop, Utah
Diane Black, Tennessee
Michael C. Burgess, Texas
Paul Broun, Georgia
John Carter, Texas
Bill Cassidy, Louisiana
Howard Coble, North Carolina
Ander Crenshaw, Florida
John Culberson, Texas
Jeff Duncan, South Carolina
Blake Farenthold, Texas
Stephen Fincher, Tennessee
John Fleming, Louisiana
Trent Franks, Arizona
Phil Gingrey, Georgia
Louie Gohmert, Texas
Vicky Hartzler, Missouri
Tim Huelskamp, Kansas
Lynn Jenkins, Kansas
Steve King, Iowa
Doug Lamborn, Colorado
Blaine Luetkemeyer, Missouri
Cynthia Lummis, Wyoming
Kenny Marchant, Texas
Tom McClintock, California
David McKinley, West Virginia
Gary Miller, California
Mick Mulvaney, South Carolina
Randy Neugebauer, Texas
Rich Nugent, Florida
Steven Palazzo, Mississippi
Steve Pearce, New Mexico
Ted Poe, Texas
Tom Price, Georgia
Phil Roe, Tennessee
Dennis A. Ross, Florida
Ed Royce, California
Steve Scalise, Louisiana
Pete Sessions, Texas
Adrian Smith, Nebraska
Lamar S. Smith, Texas
Tim Walberg, Michigan
Lynn Westmoreland, Georgia
Joe Wilson, South Carolina

Mike Lee (Utah)
Jerry Moran (Kansas)
Rand Paul (Kentucky)
Tim Scott (South Carolina)
Ted Cruz (Texas)

In order to block the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, a law which was passed in 2010 and subsequently upheld by the United States Supreme Court, the above-named individuals recklessly conspired to force the shutdown of the Federal Government.

This shutdown is causing financial, physical and emotional distress and ruin to many thousands of American citizens, including but not limited to: active military service members, military veterans, hundreds of thousands of Federal employees and contractors who have been furloughed and/or are working without pay, providers of essential services, families and children, the elderly, and countless others.

The government shutdown has brought uncertainty to the nation's and the world's financial markets, and may result in creating another recession in the United States of America and the entire world.

In addition, Representatives Boehner, Cantor, and other Republicans in the United States House of Representatives rigged the rules so that only they or their designees can bring the government shutdown matter to a vote in the House of Representatives. These individuals refused for weeks to bring the matter to a vote.

Their abuse of power, and their reckless and irresponsible actions are causing great harm to the American people and the world. Therefore, we petition that the Republican Tea Party caucus members in Congress be impeached and removed from office.
