Modernize elections and expand voting rights in Massachusetts

Victory! The creator of this petition declared the campaign a success. You can still sign the petition to show support.

Please urge the Election Laws Conference Committee to advance comprehensive election modernization legislation in Massachusetts. As the cradle of liberty, Massachusetts should be at the forefront of expanding voting rights rather than lagging behind a majority of other states in adopting proven strategies to make voting more convenient, efficient, and accessible to all.

The bill advanced by the committee and ultimately sent to the Governor’s desk to be signed into law should include:

- Election Day registration
- Permanent voter registration
- Online voter registration
- Robust early voting with weekend and evening hours
- Pre-registration for 16 and 17 year-olds
- Post-election audits of election equipment
- Improved inactive voting procedures

We should not pass up this chance to become a leader in expanding opportunities to vote and in bringing our election laws into the 21st century.

Why is this important?

The Election Laws Conference Committee will reconcile the differences between election modernization bills passed by the Massachusetts Senate and House. The Committee will ultimately decide whether Massachusetts becomes a national leader in expanding opportunities to vote or whether we continue to lag behind a majority of other states. And the decision could be made any day now.

Help keep the pressure on the committee members to advance comprehensive election modernization legislation that will make a real difference in ensuring free, fair and accessible elections in Massachusetts.

Massachusetts may not be home to the worst kinds of voter suppression and restrictive voting laws, but our outdated laws unnecessarily disenfranchise countless voters and throw up needless hurdles to voting. Take a stand today for one of the strongest voter rights bills in the country.

Senator Finegold, Senator DiDomenico, Senator Hedlund, Representative J. Murphy, Representative M. Moran, and Representative Frost are the six conferees.
