Nebraskans Resisting Climate Change

Governor Pete Ricketts and the Nebraska Unicameral: Publicly pledge to support the Paris Accord. We must ensure that Nebraska takes a leadership role in helping forge an environmentally sustainable future with good jobs, clean air and water, and greater economic equality and justice for all.

Why is this important?

97% of climate scientists recognize that human-accelerated climate change poses a serious environmental, economic and public health risk to all species on the planet. Nebraska will not be isolated from its impact.

The University of Nebraska Lincoln's 2014 Climate Change Implications for Nebraska states, "The magnitude and rapidity of the projected changes in climate are unprecedented. The implications of these changes for the health of our planet, and the legacy we will leave to our children, our grandchildren and future generations are of vital concern. Therefore, it is imperative that we develop strategies now to adapt to the multitude of changes we are experiencing and will continue to experience in our climate. This process of adaptation must begin at the local level..." (1)

Recognizing the urgency of this situation, we the undersigned urge Governor Pete Ricketts and the Unicameral to publicly pledge to support the Paris Accord, and where practical, to work to exceed its goals for the sake of the future of our children and grandchildren for generations yet to come.
