Protect NC Black Bears and Private Property Owners

The NCWRC is an agency captured by the hunters they regulate. Hunters who have threatened, bullied, and terrorized anyone who opposes any aspect of their sport killing of bears. We urge the following changes.

Ban loose dog hunting as uncontrolled trespass and abuse of private property and causing an inappropriate expense to tax payers for animal control.

Ban all baiting as unfair hunting which teaches bears to look to man for food, lose their fear of humans causing unwanted interactions between humans and bears, and unnatural/unsustainable increases in bear populations.

Ban all shooting of animals by NCWRC for research, checking herds or any other reason. If an animal must be killed, use euthanasia drugs with a veternarian present.

Allow no hunting in Peidmont area and a shorter bear season in Western NC that does not exceed seasons in other areas.

Fund independent research on bear population and effects from lower food supplies and global warming,

Declare NC Black Bears a protected mammal.

Teach community benefits from increased tourism due to learning to live with Black Bears.

Allow no hunting on private property without signs posted stating "Hunting Allowed" and written permission to hunt from the property owner. Private property owners should not be required to post their property as "No Trespassing-No Hunting" or deface their trees with purple paint in a pointless effort to prevent hunter trespassing as to do so is an unconstitutional taking of private property for public use without compensation or condemnation.

Abolish the hunter only Black Bear Committee and require 50% non-hunter participation on the NCWRC.

Ban prescribed burns in forests. They do not prevent fires, cause irreparable harm to wildlife and environment, cause serious human health damage, contribute to Global Warming, and often get out of control taking lives and destroying property.

Why is this important?

The North Carolina Wildlife Resorces Commission (NCWRC) has ignored petitions from non-hunters to protect black bears and the public from the unchecked pattern of terrorism and abuse by bear hunters. Inadequate public notice, failure to provide dedicated email addresses for public comments, and the refusal to grant disability access to meetings clearly show NCWRC bias towards bear hunters.
