Protect the Arctic Refuge from drilling

I am writing to urge you to oppose any budget that opens the door to drilling in Alaska’s Arctic Refuge, a pristine and fragile ecosystem that has long been shielded from corporate polluters.

If the Republican tax bill passes, 1.5 million acres of protected land could be subjected to seismic testing and destructive drilling operations that would endanger our public lands and our climate.

The fight to protect the Arctic Refuge is not just about our climate or wildlife conservation — it’s also about indigenous rights. For generations, the Gwich'in people of Alaska and Canada have relied on caribou in the Arctic Refuge for food, clothing, and cultural traditions. Now their entire way of life is threatened by this Congress’ budget.

Auctioning off the Arctic Refuge to fossil fuel executives is yet another egregious assault on our public lands and climate.

I urge you to do everything in your power to remove any language in the tax bill that could allow harmful oil and gas drilling in one of America’s last untouched wild areas.
