Recently, PM Trudeau removed the name of H.L. Langevin, a father of Confederation from a building across from Parliament Hill. Langevin proposed the creation of the residential school system as the quickest way to assimilate First Nations children into Euro-Canadian society. Mackenzie King ensured that Canada had by far the worst record of any Western or immigration country in providing sanctuary to the Jews of Europe in the 1930s and 1940s. Mackenzie King deserves no honour!
Why is this important?
Regarding: William Lyon Mackenzie King (WLMK): From the Canadian Encyclopedia: "Worst of all, at least from the point of those Jews desperate to get out of Nazi-infested Europe, anti-Semitism had permeated into the upper levels of the Canadian government. While Prime Minister King was worrying that Jewish immigration would "pollute" Canada's bloodstream, his government was ensuring that no more would be coming. A year or so ago, I approached a few of Canada's most respected historians. All had all written books about WLMK. They all agreed that WLMK should be judged, not by the standards of today BUT, by the standards of his time.
In view of the fact that the Canada has decided to discredit Hector-Louis Langevin, it would be the height of hypocrisy if they did not now do the same with WLMK.
